Pixel plaza

Interactive Installations / Smart City Experiences

Pixel Plaza for Sunderland City Council is a permanent interactive public installation designed as a digitally connected urban space. Located in the city centre, the plaza is formed by a circular array of LED totems, each embedded with lighting, audio, and sensor systems that respond to movement, proximity, and live data inputs. Built on a 5G-enabled smart city network, the system supports low-latency communication between devices, enabling real-time interaction and synchronised content across the entire installation.

Content is dynamically generated through a combination of live data feeds, rule-based systems, and AI-driven visuals, including responsive light compositions, spatialised sound, and character-based digital avatars that react to audience presence. The platform allows for both autonomous behaviour—driven by environmental and behavioural data—and curated content triggered via movement or scheduled programming, making the space adaptable for daily use, events, and large-scale activations.Suspended overhead, the piece uses pulsating light frequencies to guide participants into a meditative state, stimulationg the generation of colourful patterns and visual phenomena through sensory stimulation.
